Man treated after bedsit blaze
AN asthmatic man needed medical treatment after battling a bedsit blaze using a bin full of water.
The 25-year-old was treated for breathing in smoke by paramedics after trying to fight the flames with the makeshift bucket.
Fire broke out at the bedsit in Shrub End Road, Colchester, just before 4pm on Saturday.
Station officer Pete Holding said: "The guy tried to put it out with a bin of water, then left the property, shut the door and called us, so he contained the fire a little bit."
The victim's partner escaped the bedsit unharmed.
Firefighters using breathing apparatus tackled the blaze, which is believed to have been started by a candle left on a plastic storage rack.
