Abbey considered for international award
INTERNATIONAL judges have been exploring an award winning abbey.
Judges from The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) visited Beeleigh Abbey, near Maldon, on Monday August 4 to consider it for an international award.
The abbey, restored and repaired by owners Christopher and Catherine Foyle, has already won the RICS East of England Building Conservation Award 2008 following the high quality of the work completed.
And now the Grade I listed property has been shortlisted for the final and inspected by the judges.
RICS east operations director David Potter said: "The fact that Beeleigh Abbey has already won the regional conservation award is a testament to the high standard of workmanship achieved during its restoration and the positive contribution the project is already making to people's lives."
The awards celebrate and recognise projects across four categories including building conservation, regeneration, sustainability and commuity benefit.
Grand Designs presenter Kevin McCloud will announce the overall winners at a gala awards ceremony at The Millenium Hotel, Mayfair, on October 17, 2008.
