Memorial event for popular pub landlord hailed a success
A SPECIAL event to remember a popular pub landlord was a success despite the weekend showers.
Ray Day took place at The Round Bush Inn, Round Bush Road, Mundon, on Sunday August 3.
It was the second year the event had been held in memory of Ray Ibbotson who died suddenly in 2006.
Top guitarist Steve Forward provided the musical entertainment playing some of his own material as well as classic rock hits by Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton.
There were also other attractions including a bouncy castle, tombola, stalls, games and a hog roast.
Ray's son Paul, who is now landlord at the pub, said it will become an annual event to remember his dad.
He said: "It was a great success last year, which was the first time we did it, and we'll aim to do it every year now without a doubt.
"Sunday went really well, it was a very happy occasion.
"The rain didn't help but it held off till the evening, everyone enjoyed it and the music."
Ray had previously owned pubs in Great Totham and Wickham Bishops so he was a well known character across the district.
Paul added there was a good turn out on the day with many people attending that Ray had met over the years.
About £360 was raised from the event which will be donated to Farleigh Hospice, the Essex Air Ambulance and the RNLI.
