Teen set to take part in London Triathlon
A SUPERFIT teen is keeping busy while he waits for his exam results.
Tom Gibson, 17, of Washington Road , Maldon, is getting ready to take part in the London Olympic Triathlon at the Excel Centre on Sunday August 10.
It will be his fourth triathlon in four weeks.
The teenager, who recently completed his A-Levels at Plume School in Fambridge Road, Maldon, and is a member of the Blackwater Triathlon Club, said training has been going well.
He said: "I feel strong so I'm looking forward to it.
"I hope it will be a fun, enjoyable experience, despite the fact i will be exhausted.
"I've only done one event like this before but I feel quite prepared."
He will be swimming 1.5km in the Royal Victoria Dock, cycling 40km, then running 10km in aid of the Helen Rollason Heal Cancer Charity.
He explained he knows a lot about its valuable work as his mum, Sian, works for the charity.
He added: "I thought as I was taking part in the event anyway I would raise some money at the same time.
"I would like to ask anyone who knows me, or anyone who has been effected by cancer to donate as much as they can."
After getting his exam results on August 14 Tom hopes to study osteopathy at university.
