From one Maldon to another
ONLY a true Maldonian will travel around the world to visit another Maldon.
But that is exactly what one man did.
Following a report about the 150th anniversary of Maldon Australia's local newspaper, one man called to remind us about his time with our Antipodean cousins.
Robin Waller, now 41, made a special trip to Victoria's heart of gold more than 10,000 miles away in the mid 90s.
He said: "I spoke to people from the Standard who said to go and visit the mayor. I phoned international directory enquiries and found out about other Maldons.
"So I went out there and it was very nice with the station, Eagle Hawk pub and a bed and breakfast for 15 Australian dollars a night.
"Roly Simmonds - who has now died - was the mayor and he showed me round and if I had the money I would go back."
Any readers who have visited any other Maldons from around the world can contact the newspaper by e-mailing mbsdistrict@nqe.com to let us know how they compare.
