McEwan helps Rayne to win

The leading teams all scored convincing victories in the first division of the Central Essex Summer Table Tennis League and the leaders Rayne retained pole position after beating Selax 4-1.

Rayne's Andrew McEwan, in his first appearance of the summer, featured in the best battle of the evening as he beat Keith Spicer 9-11,14-12, 18-16 11-7.

However, McEwan found Gary Ward to be a different proposition, and he missed out 5-11, 10-12, 7-11 against his hard-hitting opponent.

Hullbridge Fat Boys are in second place and they also won 4-1, beating Danbury A.

Danbury's Dave Calleja made his mark, recording a fine 11-9, 11-7, 7-11, 11-5 victory over Nigel Lamb.

The match between Ramsden Raiders and OCs also produced a 4-1 result as Ramsden called the shots.

Nat Ravlic was OCs winner and he excelled as he beat John Parodi 11-7, 10-12, 13-11, 11-13, 11-6.

In a week of clear-cut winners Danbury A (Eric Green and Tony Forster) made no mistake as they beat Danbury B 5-0.

ECC A's 5-0 victory over ECC B sees them jump into second place in division two, but, having played a game more than the leaders Excalibur Musketeers top honours look to be beyond them.

County Junior stars Holly Stubbings and Bradley Hudgell were both undefeated.

Leaders Chelmsford B recorded their fourth win of the summer against Danbury C in division three, but, it was a hard fought 3-2 affair, after Danbury's David Hancox had excelled, beating both Barry Pritchard and Frank Neill.

They were more convincing 4-1 winners against Elmtree Graphics with Pritchard winning both of his singles on this occasion.

Phil Smith was Elmtree's sole winner and he came through a hard-fought game to beat Robin Armstrong 7-11, 12-10, 11-9, 3-11, 11-8.

Fambridge moved into contention by beating Excalibur Internationals 5-0, a result that may have flattered them slightly.

Three games were decided in the fifth end and Fambridge won all of them.

Peter Mynard's 11-5, 11-5, 9-11, 4-11, 13-11 victory against Michael Rostoft looks to have been the pick of the action.

ECC C took a step closer to the division four title, by beating South Woodham Ferrers 4-1.

ECC's Richard Storey won both of his singles whilst South Woodham's Graham Briggs made his presence felt as he beat Colin Barham 11-7, 8-11, 11-9, 4-11, 11-9.

Further down the table OCs C scored their first win of the season - a 3-2 success against Chelmsford D.

David Porter dominated the action, remaining undefeated in both singles and doubles.
