Writtle BC sides in Chelmsford & District action
WRITTLE men's A, B and C teams were all in action in the Chelmsford and District League on Wednesday, July 16.
A team Skips Derek Cook, Mike Fell and Ian Smith played away and faced Chelmsford A.
There was a win for Fell's rink by a single shot while Cook's rink took an early lead but Chelmsford came back and the game ended in a draw.
On the third rink Smith and his team struggled to stay in contention and lost. Writtle scored 3 league points to Chelmsford's 7.
l Writtle B team played their game away against Lionmede A and managed a good overall result.
Skip John Drake, Bob Harvey, Dennis Swann and Eddie Maycock quickly played themselves into a ten shot advantage and managed to maintain their good form by winning 27 shots to 13.
It was another good win for Skip Roger Day, Tony Lambert, Peter Pearce and Peter Storry.
Writtle took an early lead but Lionmede came back at them but Writtle held on and extended their lead and eventually wining by 21 shots to 16
Skip Peter Horn, Peter Hawkins, Peter Jarvis and Doug Hobart could not match the success of the other rinks and lost their game by 17 shots to 30.
This result meant that Writtle scored 8 league points and Lionmede 2 points.
l Writtle C team played at home against Chelmsford D and they also had a successful evening.
Skip Ron McGregor, Don Metson, Graham Jupp and Roger Pamphilon got off to a strong start and never looked like conceding their early lead, winning by 28 shots to 9.
On the next rink Skip John Kateley, Geoff King, Les Birchnall and Hugh Piper had a much closer game but managed to hold on to win by 25 shots to 22.
It was a very close game on the third rink with Chelmsford chasing Writlle right to the wire. Skip Alf Sargeant, Andrew Frow, David Pearson and Derek Lovett managed to hold on to their lead but Chelmsford competed really well and just overtook Writtle on the last end of the game.
The final score was Writtle 20 points to Chelmsford's 21.
Overall Writtle scored 8 league points and Chelmsford scored 2.
