Gold for Dobson at 10K regional run
Second lady home: Tracy Woodyard at Debden
Second lady home: Tracy Woodyard at Debden

Paul Dobson picked up another gold medal at the East of England Veteran 10km Championships at Luton on Sunday.

The tall Springfield Strider notched up another victory in his age group to win the race overall, with a buffer of 50 metres to the runner-up. Dobson's time of 35:07 reflected the tough conditions with high temperatures and humidity slowing the whole field.

A 9.30am start went some way to helping the runners at the Harlow 10 miles, but the weather took its toll again with many of the 400-strong field suffering in the heat.

Despite this Sarah Wenman, Richard Sandford, Jo Gemmill and Ben Heighton ran personal best times on what was a new course featuring a few undulations.

The Striders were in the team prizes again, with both the men and women taking second spot. Mark Newton and Mark Waine both ran well to beat the hour and with Chris Burgoyne and Heighton were runners-up to Woodford Green.

Gemmill, Sarah Colbert, Jennifer Macaulay and Sarah Mapplebeck were the successful ladies' team.

On Friday evening at Debden, near Saffron Walden, the Striders were as usual to the fore at the latest Essex trail race. Jason Praill finished second with Tracy Woodyard only seconds behind as first lady.

The Striders dominated, with Andy Mason, Jamie Woodyard, Roger Gooding, Anthony Marsh, Neil Bradley and Richard Taylor all featuring in the top ten. Sarah Colbert was second lady.

Greg Potts competed in the Culford Sprint Triathlon near Bury St Edmunds. He clocked 7:13 for the 300m pool swim, 48:06 for the 21km cycle ride and finished with 20:43 for the 4km run.
