City XI overhauls Concord
Pre-season friendly
Concord Rangers 0 Chelmsford City XI 3
Chris Moore hammered his first goal for the club and Jason Hallett helped himself to a brace as an experimental City side prevailed at Thames Road by a comfortable margin.
The former Dagenham & Redbridge forward was one of a number of players pleased to get another 90 minutes under his belt ahead of the weekend's competitive kick-off and his evening was made particularly special as he rounded-off the win with a 78th-minute thunderbolt.
Chelmsford fielded a side containing individuals looking to make a final impact in the Clarets' last pre-season friendly and Hallett achieved this with a pair of goals, one in each half, which will have done his cause no harm alongside a posse of other impressive performers.
Second-half substitutions were also made to introduce two triallist names - former Crystal Palace defender Michael Kamara and Cardiff City Under-18s top-scorer Jack Carlile, who were both out to impress the Management Team in their short spells on the pitch.
Early in proceedings goalkeeper Ashley Harrison was in the thick of things, diving to block an initial well-struck long-ranger before getting up quickly to thwart an attacker from the rebound.
This was an involvement he was to get used to in the first half, also making another great stop on the quarter-of-an-hour mark and getting down well to prevent a bottom corner effort on 34 minutes.
Twice during the first period City had players through on goal only to see the goalkeeper in the way, firstly Hallett on 18 minutes who struck straight at the custodian then Stuart Ainsley six minutes before half-time as he latched onto a brilliant Spencer Knight curved ball round the back of the defence.
But the Clarets did enter the interval with a tangible advantage thanks to Hallett's 21st-minute opener. Danny Webb collected the ball in the corner of the penalty box and threaded across the face to the arriving youngster who gobbled-up the chance from a few yards at the far post.
Hallett could have netted his second much earlier courtesy of a brilliant James Lawson right-wing cross which he diverted over with his head on 63 minutes but he did convert again 11 minutes later.
A chance seemed to have dissolved from a corner until Dave Rainford, with his back to goal, brilliantly hooked goalbound over his shoulder inside the area and Hallett was on the line to nudge a header home to make sure.
The best was saved for last as Moore, enjoying a central attacking role for the first time in claret colours, raced onto a through pass in the dying embers of the game before rifling into the top corner from ten yards, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance and wrapping-up the victory in the process.
