Chelmsford Cricket Club 1sts make it six!

CHELMSFORD's first string notched up a sixth successive win - but inspite of this Hornchurch leapfrogged them after bowling out Westcliff.

And elsewhere there were diasppointments for teams - chiefly a dreadful second team display.

The biggest good news stories were maiden centuries for Lee Cranmer and Mark Coups with Guy Balmford making his first league century as well. Cranmer's effort came on the under-16s tour to Sussex. They twice beat the Sussex Regional side.

Chris Prowting's recent good form continued with 62 in the first team's successful pursuit of Hutton's 159 all out. The pairing of Kamran Ali and Rob Hayto again worked well, each of them claiming four wickets.

The second team made an appalling start to their game with Chingford. Offord struck four times in his first two overs to reduce Chelmsford to 11 for four.

Despite fine batting from Hales (53) and a solid contribution from Alston (49), that score might have been enough had so many chances not been dropped.

The combination of Nigel Bond (2-52) and Pandya (2-31) caused the batsmen problems but nine or ten chances were spurned.

Chelmsford's thirds had a solid win by six wickets over Hutton. A patient unbeaten 60 from Jack Sterland helped Chelmsford surpass Hutton's 183 all out.

A brilliant Guy Balmford innings at Billericay led the fourth team to an eight-wicket victory.

Chelmsford's bowlers did well on a good wicket to restrict the home side to 212 for seven, Gillion (79) and Walter (64no) being the top scorers.

The donkey work was carried out by Andy Thurston (2-62) and Anthony Holland (3-71), Tom Evans-Green also bowling a good spell.

That represented a challenging target with the top four all being under-15s.

Balmford's brilliant 104 not out made it look easy and Olly Devenish (57) provided sterling support.

The fifth team had a close match with Westcliff. Alex Bailey and Adi Vohra took three wickets apiece when Westcliff were dismissed for 136.

Mark Coups hit his first ever hundred in the sixth team's game against Great Baddow. His unbeaten 117 helped Chelmsford reach 213 for three. Great Baddow were bowled out for 71, Ryan Dziadulewicz taking three for 4 and Joel and Steven Swift taking two wickets each.

The Sunday first team won their fixture against Ford Sports. Ahmed made an excellent undefeated 103 in the visitors 183 for six. A very impressive 74 not out from Jack Sterland had Chelmsford 151 for two with sixteen overs to go when rain intervened. The Sunday second team drew with Benfleet. Sean Tilby and Jason Bolton played well and made half centuries but the time factor told against Chelmsford and they played out to 150 for seven.

The under-13s got back on the winning trail in the Peter Coe Cup. Some good bowling saw off Loughton for 83. Liam Keaney's big hitting made short work of that, he was 66 not out when the ten-wicket win was achieved.

Under-16 Tour (Sussex) Northern Knights 203-8 Chelmsford 207-4 (Chelmsford won by 6 wickets) A fine 108 not out from Lee Cranmer led Chelmsford to victory. Jack Sterland's 67 was also a significant factor.

Chelmsford 170-8 Northern Knights 146 all out (Chelmsford won by 24 runs) Tom Halsey took his chance at the top of the order, making 45 with Stephen Drain weighing in with 32.

Every dog has its day and somehow Jack Sterland took three wickets to set the skids under the hosts. White's 65 proved to be in vain.

Chelmsford 159 all out Northern Knights 159-8 (Match tied) An unbeaten tour was just achieved in an exciting final match. Sam Hollingsworth's 32 rescued a tired batting performance.

SN Essex League Division 1 Hutton 159 all out Chelmsford 1sts 162-5 (Chelmsford won by 5 wickets) BATTING first on a good looking pitch with the weather not really suiting the bowlers, Hutton made a reasonable start.

Chelmsford's opening bowlers asked questions but had no luck.

An excellent direct hit run out from Kamran Ali finally got the breakthrough. A solid partnership between Buttleman and Day saw Hutton reach 105 for two after 30 overs.

Ali picked up four wickets including Buttleman (54). That paved the way for Rob Hayto to burgle wickets at the end of the innings and walk away with four for 26.

The reply started well with Matt Thurston (27) and Chris Prowting (62) taking Chelmsford to 76 without loss. The introduction on Cocklin (4-39) saw both openers fall but Ali (29) and Nick Prowting (24*) took Chelmsford close to the winning line before Ali faltered.

SN Essex League Premier Chelmsford 2nds 182-8 Chingford 183-5 (Chingford won by 5 wickets) SN Essex League Premier Hutton 183 all out Chelmsford 3rds 184-4 CHELMSFORD pulled off a fairly unspectacular win over Hutton.

Some accurate bowling kept the scoring under control but a fast outfield was working against Chelmsford. Imran Akhtar's second spell brought him two quick wickets that reduced Hutton to 96 for six.

Walker (33) and Jelley (24) then combined well, putting on 60 for the seventh wicket. Chelmsford's four bowlers, Fergus (4-36), Akhtar (3-52), Ian Turner (1-28) and Neal Abhyankar (2-44) did a pretty decent job.

Extras had a burst early on to give the innings impetus. Cochrane extracted a lot from the pitch and kept things tight, that pressure in turn forced the odd wicket to fall.

Jack Sterland played in composed fashion, always aware that someone bating through the innings would lead to victory. The scoring was briefly becalmed and Hutton thought that pressure was being applied with 28 needed from 7 overs. Fifteen balls later the game was over, Sterland hitting the accelerator to reach 60 not out.

l SN Essex League 3rd Division 3 Billericay 214-7 Chelmsford 4ths 215-2 (Chelmsford won by 8 wickets) l Friendly Westcliff 136 all out Chelmsford 5ths 138-7 (Chelmsford won by 3 wickets) l Friendly Chelmsford 6ths 213-3 Great Baddow 71 all out (Chelmsford won by 142 runs) Sunday 3 August l Friendly Ford Sports183-6 Chelmsford 1sts 151-2 (Chelmsford won on faster scoring rate) There was some fairly entertaining cricket in this match with Jack Sterland really impressing.

Ford Sports adopted an aggressive approach but tossed away wickets particularly during an all action spell from Craig Thompson (3-32). A fine catch by Christoph Drain led them to reassess.

Ahmed took responsibility for run scoring and played some fantastic shots. Surprisingly it was the lower team bowlers, Anthony Holland and Alistair Fergus who restricted the scoring most in tidy but wicketless spells. Ahmed completed a very good century in the penultimate over and the innings closed at 183 for two from 40 overs.

Some erratic bowling gave Chelmsford a whirlwind start. It was fifteen-year old Jack Sterland who showed how to bat, unleashing a terrific array of shots and being unfazed by a couple of wickets going down. With 33 needed from 95 balls the rain came down and Ford Sports decided to concede rather than wait around. In fact, the rain never relented so they could have avoided defeat. Sterland was 74 not out.

Peter Coe Cup (U13s) Played at Chelmer Park Loughton 83 all out Chelmsford 88-0 (Chelmsford won by 10 wickets) CHELMSFORD's under-13s proved too strong for Loughton. Cordelia Griffiths looked a threat to Chelmsford, playing nicely until she was run out for 27. For Chelmsford Jack Stevens, Mihir Sood and Ben Turner took two wickets, Turner striking with his first ball at this level.

Skipper Liam Keaney made short work of the chase hitting 66 not out.
