Chelmsford girl is basketball star
TOP south-east Essex basketball club Southend Swifts have two girls in the England Under-16 team flying out to Bulgaria for the European Champion-ships this week.
Hawkwell's Francesca Whitby, a Greensward College, Hockley, student, and Jennie Rodgers, who lives in Chelmsford, and their team-mates won two out of three warm-up matches in Luxembourg at the weekend.
They fly out from Heathrow this week and face a busy schedule with pool games against Greece on Friday, Portugal the following day then Denmark and Israel.
The under-16 girls have never won this event before, but are confident as they have a strong line-up.
