Forrester Park seniors through to county semis
Congratulations are due to Forrester Park's seniors team, who reached the semi-final of the Seniors Team county competition by beating Orsett seven games to three, with one game halved.
This is the first time any club team has reached the semi-final of the county team competition. We now look forward to the semi-final against Woodford to be played on August 11.
The vets had a friendly match against Harwich and Dovercourt and, unusually for this year, Forrester Park took the honours.
The early bird Stableford, for members not involved in the match, was won by Colin Place with 42 points. Ron Garrod was second with 38 points, and Harry Whiteman beat Tom Nugent for third place, both with 37 points.
The men's competition was the Bob Hart trophy, which was also a qualifier for the South-East Essex Invitational competition. The first five pairs in the greensomes competition would make up the Forrester Park team.
This meant that Dennis Cornwell and David Ayres, who won the competition, led the qualifiers with net 60 for the greensomes strokeplay competition. Fraser Gale and Mick Brewington were second with net 65, beating Robert Goodwin and Roy Sayer on countback.
The other players to make up the team were Jeff Atkinson and Peter Stuart with net 66, Bryan Bowring and Dave Lewis with net 67 and Eric Barker and Mark Jeffrey also with net 67.
The ladies played a Bogie competition and Margaret Triston, was the runaway winner with +4. Elspeth Williams was second with +1, just beating Jean Drew, who scored level par.
