Woodham Mortimer win away on a tough wicket
Hullbridge II 137 all out
Woodham Mortimer II 138 for 8
(Woodham win by two wickets)
Tom Payne and Russell Barnard opened the bowling attack for Woodham Mortimer II, on a less than convincing away wicket at Hullbridge.
Tom was the first to strike, via a catch by John Scott. Simon Barrett then took a wonderful catch behind the stumps, off Russell Barnard's bowling.
Tom and Russell were replaced in the attack by Chris Collis and Rob Jones. At this point, despite some good bowling, the Hullbridge run rate was starting to rise.
Enter John Strange to join Rob Jones in the attack, and the run rate slowed. Wickets fell at regular intervals.
The Hullbridge innings was rounded off by two wonderful run outs, the first by Antonio Borrelli and the second, an even better one from Simon Barrett, who dived full-length and threw down the stumps whilst on his knees.
Some good bowling and some great fielding meant Hullbridge were all out for 137 in 40 overs.
Andy Smith opened the batting again and runs flowed from his bat. Woodham, however, lost wickets at regular intervals. Steve Collis and Antonio Borrelli's 38-run partnership, therefore, proved priceless.
Once Antonio and Steve were out, John Scott and John Strange carried on the good work. These two took Woodham to the verge of victory, but it was left to Chris Collis to score the winning runs.
