Gruelling Forestman takes James nearly 13 hours

James Haskey-Jones completed the gruelling Forestman long distance triathlon, held in the New Forest, to finish fifth in his age group and 26th overall.

It took James 12 hours 45 minutes and 32 seconds to complete a 3.8km mass-start swim, a 180km cycle and 42.2km marathon run, mostly on roads.

This was an extremely good time for what is one of the country's toughest Triathlon events.

Kevin Carley completed the Cowman middle distance triathlon, held in Olney, Buckinghamshire. It took Kevin five hours 57 minutes and 37 seconds in the wind and rain to complete a 1.9km mass-start swim, a 92km cycle and 21km half-marathon run.

This was ideal training for Kevin, who will be competing in the Ironman UK long-distance triathlon in September.

Blackwater Triathlon Club entered two teams for the Bananaman team time-trial triathlon held at Dorney Lake - the venue for Rowing in the 2012 Olympic Games.

Father and son, Dave and Tom Gibson, and Dave Southgate took 1:47:48 to compete the three-quarter-distance triathlon of an 800m swim, 30km cycle and 7.5km run, finishing a credible 16th.

The second team of Grant Harris, Carl Simpson and John Edgington ran into some bad luck as Grant suffered a puncture but the team still came 26th, in 1:57:51.

The August club triathlon saw three personal-best times and Andy Jopson produced one of the best times this year, of 44:07, to win the 400m swim, 12km bike and 5km run early on Sunday morning. Second was James Heskey-Jones in 49:26; closely followed by Stuart Bird in 50:35.

Only one minute separated Tom and Dave Gibson with times of 50:56 and 51:56 respectively, a PB for Dave. There were further PBs, too, for Kevin Carley with 53:52 and Peter Guy with 54:54.

Dave Southgate came in with 55:23 followed by first female Paula Purtell in 56:55.

Back to triathlon, Andy Layley completed the race in 57:06 despite getting lost on the run. Mike Fielding, Esther Jones and Nikki Kelly, in her first triathlon, came in 1:00:02, 01:00:53 and 1:02:51 respectively.

Ian Potter and super veteran Stuart Axon completed the race 1:03:56 and 1:11:24.

At the same time as the triathlon, Barry Dalton, Chris Hawes, Hannah and Annette Corby completed an aquathon (400m swim and 5km run), with times of 26:41, 28:16, 39:06 and 40:54 respectively. There were PBs for Hannah and Annette Corby.

Julie Peacock completed a 400m swim and 12km bike in 35:52. The time keepers and bike official for the events were Gray Faiers and Colin Corby The 2008 Blackwater Charity Triathlon is on Sunday the 14th September in aid of Essex Air Ambulance. Entries are now closed.
