Superb eight-wicket win for Woodham
Tom Payne and captain Steve Collis opened the bowling attack for Woodham Mortimer Cricket Club in their match against Bentley.
These two made a quick double breakthrough before Rob Jones replaced Collis in the attack and bowled a really tight spell.
The fielding started as it was to carry on - in a performance described as "brilliant" by the skipper. Matt Grundy, Dan, Antonio Borrelli, Jarrod Payne and John Scott in particular were outstanding.
Mo Zubair entered the bowling attack and took a wicket with his first ball, amid much celebration.
John Strange bowled his usual tight line and kept the Bentley batsman tied down. Collis returned at the end to take another wicket and bowl three consecutive maiden overs.
But for a spirited last wicket stand, Bentley would not have got near 149 for 9 off 45 overs.
The Woodham opening batsmen this week were Eric Strange and Rob Jones. Both batted well in a stand of 51, before Eric was out for 17 and Rob for 31.
Enter Tom Payne and Mo Zubair to increase the run rate. Try as they might Bentley could not shift these two and the ball disappeared to all parts.
Zubair, scoring 37 and Tom Payne with 44 took Woodham to victory - and Mo hit a big six to finish the game in style.
Woodham closed on 150 for 2 off 30 overs and won by eight wickets.
